What is Grievance Redressal?
Grievance redressal is the process by which a Data Fiduciary receives, acknowledges, and resolves complaints from Data Principals about how their personal data is handled. A published grievance contact and timely responses are core DPDP obligations.
Key requirements
- Publish a grievance officer or contact on your privacy notice
- Acknowledge complaints within a reasonable period
- Resolve grievances within statutory timelines (typically up to 90 days)
- Escalate unresolved matters to the Data Protection Board where required
- Maintain records of grievance handling for audits
