What is Data Protection Board of India (DPBI)?
The Data Protection Board of India is the regulatory authority established under the DPDP Act to oversee compliance, hear grievances, and impose penalties. Data Fiduciaries must notify the Board of personal data breaches in the form and manner prescribed by the Rules.
Key requirements
- Submit breach notifications to the Board within the prescribed timeline (72 hours under current guidance)
- Respond to inquiries and orders from the Board
- Cooperate with investigations into processing practices
- Designate a contact for Board correspondence (DPO for SDFs)
- Maintain evidence of compliance for Board review
