Backend Engineer

Engineering · Bengaluru · Office, client premises when needed

₹12–18L plus ESOP, depending on depth

Build, test, and deploy the Python services that hold discovery results and serve consent, rights, and evidence.

About the role

ComplyDP's product API is Python. You own the services connectors call: auth, discovery jobs, status, and the Postgres records behind every finding.

The system makes claims about a customer's data, and those claims have to survive an audit committee. A scan that hit a pagination cap must never report as complete. A classifier whose accuracy has not been measured must report its findings as candidates, not confirmations. That honesty is enforced in the data model and in the service layer. It is the product, and you will be the one holding it.

The same API runs in our cloud and inside a customer's network where their data cannot leave. Air-gapped, no telemetry, no phone-home. That shapes almost every design decision you will make.

What you will do

  • Design and ship Python APIs for discovery jobs, scans, consent, rights, and evidence exports
  • Model results in Postgres with audit trails, idempotent writes, and clear error contracts
  • Build and maintain the guards that refuse unsafe operations, and make every refusal say why, in a sentence an operator can act on
  • Test and deploy with Docker and CI, including a path that works in a VPC or fully air-gapped
  • Keep credentials, customer metadata, and logs safe, and make failures diagnosable without exposing what was scanned
  • Pair with Integration Engineer - 2 on the connector contract, then fix production incidents together

What you bring

  • Production Python services you have built, tested, and deployed yourself
  • REST APIs, SQL, Postgres, and Docker
  • Automated tests and CI/CD you have used to ship a backend change
  • One of AWS, Azure, or GCP, and care for how a service behaves outside your laptop
  • Secure handling of API credentials and customer data

Bonus

  • FastAPI, and queues or job runners for long-running tasks
  • Rust, in production or in substantial projects
  • On-prem or VPC deployments, or Kubernetes
  • Cryptography in anger: signing, encryption at rest, tamper-evident logs
  • Privacy, consent, data governance, or security products

Weaker fit

  • Primarily frontend, ML research, or analytics engineering
  • Backend work that was mostly CRUD against a framework's defaults
  • Comfortable shipping something that works but cannot be explained when it fails

Not this role

If you would rather go outward into customer systems and make connectors work on someone else's network, apply to Integration Engineer - 2 instead.

Standard vesting

ESOP grants vest over four years from the start date in the grant. Nothing vests in the first year. One quarter vests on the first anniversary, then an equal part each month.

WhenVested
Months 0–110%
Month 1225% of the grant
Each month from 13 to 481/48 of the grant
Month 48100%

On a grant of 48 options: none until month 12, then 12, then 1 each month through month 48. The offer sets the number of options.

Balanced salary and equity

Equity follows the standard vesting schedule. This is the mix you want to start from.

Describe a service you built where correctness mattered more than speed. What did you refuse to do, and what did that cost you?
